Stage 1 Submission Deadline for GoAERO Competition Approaches

GoAERO is gearing up to award Stage 1 Prizes to the top 10 Teams who submit their designs for an Emergency Response aircraft. Teams interested in developing cutting-edge aerial vehicles that could transform disaster response should submit their design ideas by December 11, 2024, to be eligible for Stage 1 of the GoAERO Prize. Early participation is encouraged to maximize prize money opportunities and access support, mentors, and benefits, but teams can join at any stage of the competition and are not required to have participated in or won Stage 1 to advance to Stage 2.

The competition is global with Teams hailing from around the world — it is a call to entrepreneurs, engineers, students, and businesses to create aerial solutions that rescue people in danger and respond to challenges posed by medical emergencies, humanitarian crises, climate change, and natural disasters. Throughout the competition, teams will be challenged to design, develop and build emergency response aerial technologies that rescue people, deliver first responders, provide emergency supplies, and aid in humanitarian efforts.

Stage 1 winners will be selected based on a digital-only submission describing the technical approach and project plan. Up to ten $10,000 Stage 1 winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Technical approach: Describe the hardware and software you plan to bring to the Fly-Off, describe its sufficient performance, and substantiate that it will perform as claimed.

  • Project plan: Show that you will safely and dependably execute up through finishing the Fly-Off and have the necessary resources.

  • Competitiveness: Show that your system has been developed and optimized for competitive performance specifically at the GoAERO Fly-Off.

  • Clarity: Make your submission organized, succinct, and easy to follow.

Teams are receiving guidance and support from a number of GoAERO’s partners, such as Boeing, NASA, RTX, Honeywell, and other aerospace organizations, to help make their paper designs come to life.

As part of the competition, teams will have access to mentors and technical experts at many of these organizations, as well as trainings, lectures, and software. Participants who continue through the competition are eligible for more than $2 million in additional prizes.

“Emergency responders put their lives on the line to help those in need,” said Gwen Lighter, founder and CEO of GoAERO. “They deserve the best, most capable technologies that can perform a wide array of rescue missions. The GoAERO Prize hopes to inspire and catalyze the creation of affordable, portable, versatile, and autonomy-enabled Emergency Response Flyers that will help close a critical gap in emergency response technology.”

GoAERO is excited to see all the amazing ideas participants have for the first stage of the GoAERO competition. The Stage 1 submission deadline is December 11, 2024.
